The 2015 Naoussa was aged for 14 months in used French oak and comes in at 13.1% alcohol. This is sourced from two vineyards, 30% from Dalamari (15 years old at 450 meters) and the rest from Paliokalia (45 years old at 200 meters). This is a powerful and pointed Xinomavro, showing off some typical rusticity but having just enough fruit to balance (some of) the power. It's earthy and complex. Very dry, a bit acidic and astringent—in other words, Xinomavro—this is an old-school version of the grape that mostly succeeds. It does so at a very nice price too. It will need a little cellar time, however. As I've said in other notes this issue, this desperately needs time and a food pairing. If you're into sweet, fruity and soft wines, look away. This is for lovers of old-school Barolo. At the nice price, it is well worth socking some of this away. It has a chance to develop and improve.
