The 2015 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo hails from a very balanced season with rains at the right time and sun at the right time, a model growing cycle; it's a wine the family decided to age for the 80% of its production. Earthy, herbaceous, redolent of sour red fruit at first, shaking off woodsy, mineral tones to reveal depths of blackberry, crushed stone, aromatic cedar and autumn leaves. It takes on a more lifted feel on the palate, ushering in a vivid display of black cherries contrasted by fresh tobacco, anise, hibiscus tea, and dried wild minty. Tension builds with each passing sip, as zesty acids combine with grippy, youthful tannins to create a clenching sensation that lingers through its long and savory finish. All it really needs is some time in the cellar to flesh out and reveal its charms.
